Where to find help

Note regarding diagnostic and treatment advice

It is not possible to make a clinical diagnosis or recommend a specific course of treatment for any individual by email. Diagnostic and management decisions must always be made on the basis of a full clinical history, examination and appropriate investigations.

The only way to reliably obtain an accurate diagnosis and treatment advice, as well as to identify any underlying conditions is to consult a doctor face to face. The AHMF cannot refer you to a specific doctor, but we recommend any of the Australian and New Zealand sexual health clinics in the "Where to Find Help" section below.

The Australian Herpes Management Forum maintains this web site as an educational resource for people affected by the herpes viruses and the health professionals who care for them.

As time goes on, the amount of information on the site will increase, and more aspects of the herpes viruses and their associated conditions will be covered. In the meantime, we regret that we are unable to respond to requests from people wishing to receive more detailed documents or references by email (for example, students preparing school projects).

There is a links section of the web site which includes references to other web resources dealing with the herpes viruses. One of these resources may contain the information you seek. Alternatively, there are many journals and texts that publish information related to herpes viruses.

If you wish to obtain detailed information about specialised aspects of herpes viruses and their associated clinical conditions, it may be useful to start with a literature search via Medline, or to review specific sexual health journals such as:
