In October 2004, the AHMF offered an Online Doctor service for Australians with questions about genital herpes. Examples of some of the questions received included:

  • Can a caesarean avoid transmission to a baby during birth, and will taking medication up to birth help?
  • Can you breast feed or give blood with genital herpes in your system?
  • Are there any alternative therapies or supplemental therapies that help?
  • Can you get herpes from a hand?
  • Can the symptoms be a heat rash and not herpes?
  • Is itching and sensitivity necessarily genital herpes?
  • Can you re-infect yourself?
  • Where is the best place to monitor new developments in HSV treatments?

For more information about the types of questions people asked, see the Online Doctor page.
