Travel scholarship

The AHMF holds a Travel Grant Scholarship every year to allow medical graduates, biomedical scientists, nurses, allied health professionals, doing post graduate studies or research in the area of herpes viruses, an opportunity to attend a National or International Conference to present a paper on laboratory, clinical or public health research related to herpes viruses.

2008 travel scholarship winner: role of CMV and other herpesviruses in congenital infections and stillbirth 

Winner of the 2008 AHMF Travel Scholarship is Dr Jonathon Howard. Dr Howard will be presenting his research: Investigation of the role of CMV and other herpesvirus in congenital infections and stillbirth at the International Herpesvirus Workshop in Ithaca, New York from July 25th to 31st 2009.

2007 travel scholarship winner: Identification of protein interactions in HSV-1 

Winner of the 2007 AHMF Travel Scholarship goes to Dr Russell Diefenbach.Dr Diefenbach's prize winning paper discusses the Identification of the structural protein-protein interactions of Herpes simplex virus type-1.

Gillian Scott 2006 travel scholarship winner: CMV DNA polymerase aspartate triad as an antiviral target 

The winner of the 2006 AHMF Travel Scholarship is Gillian Scott. Gillian was awarded the scholarship to attend the 11th international CMV and Betaherpesvirus Workshop at the Universite Paul Sabatiere in Toulouse, France from May 13-17, 2007 and present “The CMV DNA Polymerase Aspartate Triad as an Antiviral Target”.

As well as going to the CMV conference Gillian was also able to visit collaborators of the project in Erlangen, Germany and Cambridge, UK, and give a talk to both of these groups on her research (including the poster presentation).

Prof Suzanne Garland presents Michelle Giles the 2005 AHMF Travel Scholarship 2005 travel scholarship winner: Obstetricians' knowledge of herpesviruses in pregnancy 

The winner of the 2005 Travel Grant Scholarship is Dr Michelle Giles. She presented A Study of Obstetricians' Knowledge Base for Management of Herpes Virus Infections in Pregnancy in Australia at the 2006 Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology (IDSOG) Annual Meeting 2006 in Monterey, California.

Dr Monica Saksena 2004 travel scholarship winner: HSV-1 in axons 

Dr Monica Saksena, the 2004 winner, presented her winning paper at the 2005 International STI Conference at the University of Turku in Finland. The paper was also published in the Journal of Virology.
